Comparing, visually, today’s modern NBA broadcast and the way things were shot 20-30 years ago; I believe that today’s visual presentation of the league is bland to watch and too brightly lit. I think this takes away from the game a bit because it feels less like the games carry less weight. This is probably a dumb take, but I think the games would look better if you could barely see the crowd and the lighting was more dramatic.

Interesting question. I'm a new fan so I don't really have a historical perspective. I'll see what I think when next I tune into a game, tomorrow probably. Broadcast brightness probably varies by arena and possibly TV broadcaster though, no? (I say possibly TV broadcaster because I suspect all TV networks licensed to broadcast the game get the same camera feeds and probably use the same ones)
