If I am required to do this, I am purging my Discord account immediately. I am not giving them face scans.

Do you guys think that maybe we could fool the AI with AI?

I’d like to try to verify an account using a This Person Does Not Exist generated image, but I don’t use Discord at all

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 week ago (2 children)

You can, a shitty deepfake will trick most verification systems, I've tested it in banks before

A smiley face drawn in MS paint could probably manage.

Typically they test videos, not images. So your AI would have to at least animate it.

*sets up mumble server

This is what it takes for you to finally leave discord? I would guess most people that have managed to stick around discord this long won't even mind this.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I don't use the platform, why is Discord so terrible?

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh, the service itself is decent, up to great depending on your criteria. Pretty much never down, works well enough, etc.

It's the privacy and bullshit behind the service that's hated. Well, usually, some people hate the layout, and others hate the fact that it's the default for so many people that it's difficult to avoid.

Also don't forget the walled garden. Some niche topics only have information and support on discord, which isn't accessible to anyone like the general internet

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago

Yeah, discord is excellent for what it was made: sharing memes and voice chat. But somehow it completely replaced classic discussion boards and it sucks at that.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

In addition to other comments, it's a terrible replacement for forums. Information gets buried quickly, is hard to sort and search through, and conversations get scrambled.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

It's the privacy

I stopped using Discord way back when it always spun up my fans and made my phone hot just leaving it open.

What would be the alternative for discord?

You know, revolt exists. Matrix is good but it isn't the same experience as discord. Revolt is a pretty good open source copy of discord.

Back to TeamSpeak and Vent then

If something like this happens, I'm setting up a Matrix room as something on the side for if people who work on the same project I do want out of this garbage.

Does anybody have any suggestions for alternatives for chats?

I use it a lot for classes (students use them) and video games.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I used to use TeamSpeak. Very cross platform, as it should be. It still has great reviews although I haven’t dug that far into the privacy aspect yet

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Mumble is an open source version of Teamspeak.

I needed my face, ID, and username to get unbanned (disco was convinced I'm underage)

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 week ago

Maybe it's because you spell it "disco"

huh...sounds like an invasion of privacy.

good thing I never used discord because of the toxicity and pedophiles.

nothing gained, nothing lost.
