If you're pounding back energy drinks on the regular, the type of sugar they use should be the least of your concerns.

I'm a pourover coffee kinda girl myself

nuh uh i like my kidney stones :3

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

This is a common joke but I genuinely tried to find a link between energy drinks and kidney stones on google scholar and could just go as far as soda and acidic drinks being maybe a little worse.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Kidney stones are definitely linked to dehydration and so are excess sugar and caffeine.

fun fact! If you're on Windows (or KDE) you can do Windows key + period to open an emoji menu.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Honestly, I'd be more worried about the metabolic accelerant effects, as well as the dehydration and the gastrointestinal irritation (the laxative effect isn't because it's a good solvent:)) ).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

is there even a sour patch kids flavored beverage that isn't an energy drink?

Can I PLEASE just get a bubbly drink with caffeine that is unsweetned. The canned coffee is all too expensive and most of that has sugar in it to.

Just give me a sparkling unsweetened tea with extra caffeine. Is that to much to ask?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

Might be a bit hard for you to buy depending on where you live but YABU energy drink is just straight up carbonated Polish apple juice with caffeine. I drank a few different flavours they have and they are nice.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

You can get caffenated water; I'm sure it would carbonate just as well as regular water.

Hiball energy seltzer is pretty good, but they stopped selling it near me.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Hiball is crack

Dunno where you are, but ChariTea has a new sugar free mate. Mate based drinks in general tend to be at least less sweet than that energy drink stuff.

I personally usually just make coffee at home and take it with me, but I recognise that doesn't work for everyone.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Not to be that guy, but as someone who quit caffeine entirely, honestly it's kinda great not needing caffeine. I traded my daily coffee for water and now I just drink shitloads of water and it's honesty glorious. Waking up and just...going is amazing

Wanted to throw it out there because it seems not many people try to kick caffeine

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Bawls is just guarana and caffeine iirc.

Ed: hfcs in it now I guess, shame

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

I actually think Lipton peach ice tea in 2lt packets have no sugar added, giving them a really mild flavor compared to their fruit juice like flavor in canned and 1lt forms

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

just fucking buy caffeine at this point.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Exactly. Home carbonated filtered water and anhydrous caffeine. Just make sure you have an accurate scale.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

or don't and go wild ass berserk

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Absolutely. You can buy caffeine by the kilo and incidentally it sort of looks like really stepped on coke.

But I'm not kidding about the accurate scale tho. I LOVE caffeine, but the last time I tried to eyeball 200mg I ended up feeling like I was going to die.

Ma'am, that is a 33 cl mixture of gas station sludge. It has no syrup, leaves, or apple juice. It is an amalgamation of the industrial output of several laboratories, distilled, mixed, powdered, re-liquefied, and ultimately inexorably joined in an unholy water chalice. God had no hand in the creation of this abhorrence. The fact that this terrible liquid exists proves that God is either impotent to alter His universe or ignorant to the horrors taking place in his kingdom. This prism of water is more than gas station sludge. It is a physical declaration of mankind's contempt for the natural order. It is hubris manifest.
We also have a higher glucose variety if you would prefer that.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

Oh yeah, that's the one. I'll take a case.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

I am so glad the Lemmy hivemind understood that reference because when I upvoted earlier today it was at 0 lmao

We're all fucked. Whether it's sugary or sugar-free, if your brain likes it it's probably bad for you.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 week ago

Counterpoint: butt stuff

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Sounds like you haven't tried enough shit. If you don't like something healthy just eat it again. If you eat something enough times you will eventually like it. Not liking healthy food is for the weak minded.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Y'all aren't getting that this comment is about stuff that tastes sweet.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

but many people don't even particularly like sweet stuff, my brain just constantly demands starch and protein

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago
[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago

not true. There's plenty my brain likes that's good for you. For example: cardio, sushi, coffee, sex, anchovies, tabbouleh, whitefish salad, bagels, and blankets. As always, all good things in moderation.

I mostly drink water and generally love me a good tall glass of ice cold water. Does that mean my water habit will kill me at some point?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

I shall live forever then!

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago
[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, Monster will kill me. That's why I drink it...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

no it won't it'll just make you slightly less healthy

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Water and/or unsweetened tea or coffee is pretty good.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Stop gaslighting me.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Or you could just put sugar in. Or drink better tea. I heard good tea doesn't even really need sugar.

Fuck it, good filtered coffee is good even without sugar, and with some sugar it's a damn treat with almost no calories

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

this is why I always try to use non sugar-free alternatives
