It's because most Americans are programmed from birth to believe that rich people are the smartest, coolest, sexiest people on the planet. They got rich because of how amazing they are, they can't be evil. At the same time, they are bombarded with propaganda telling them that it's the "welfare queens", "illegal aliens", and "DEI" keeping them down. Women won't have sex with them because of "feminism" and "wokeism". The LGBTQ letter mafia is stealing their kids with their evil grooming techniques and pronouns (it's definitely not because the kids are queer and refuse to speak to you because you're an abusive piece of shit). And a significant portion of people eat this up and make it their identity. They see and experience the symptoms of a sick society but are incapable of reading between the lines to see the actual causes of their suffering. 21% of adults are illiterate and 54% read below a sixth-grade level. The general level of education is so poor that people believe anything that is presented to them in a slick enough manner by a person they view as trustworthy; which could be their pastor, a Fox News host (you can't lie on TV!), or their uncle on facebook. So, when they finally snap and they have no idea who has destroyed their lives and what they do just seems completely random. I'm sure they have some Qanon-brained justification for why they shot up a mall or school but it would seem like complete gibberish to a literate person. It would just look Charlie's notebook from Always Sunny with more swastikas and Kekistan flags.

As someone who lives here and has been to civilized countries it feels like I've been involuntarily committed to a psych ward where even the care workers believe the same shit as the inpatients. It's so difficult to find people who don't have insane red flags like they're good on most things BUT they're vehemently pro-Isreal or something. It fucking sucks here.
