Lots of people probably. It is bright and I can see novice (which could be majority of Americans) not realizing it's a planet not a star.

Lol exactly. Luckily I know better it is the first thing I see in my neighborhood at night.
My 8 year old tried to do that last night and I had to stop her tell her it was a planet and then help her find a new star.
Whenever I see my husband's face that's what I do.
In Poland you start the Christmas eve dinner when the first star appears, wonder how often that's Venus
