Good article. I don’t really think of Handmaids Tale as a YA book, but there’s nothing wrong with teens reading it.
The most important passage to me in this article:
“Wright explained that parents can select a library card that prevents children under 13 from accessing books in the teen section. “
This just proves it’s not about protecting themselves from what they can read, but to prevent you from reading it too. Ask yourself why they don’t want you to read it — it’s not about profanity or sex.
