The film involves gutter punks who take the anti-establishment message with extreme seriousness and tune out society completely. Spheeris talks to homeless teenagers living on the street or squatting in abandoned buildings in Los Angeles that go by the names of "Why-Me?", "Hamburger", "Troll", "Eyeball", "Squid", and others. ... The film premiered at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival where it won the Freedom of Expression Award. It was screened at the Cannes Film Festival and the Chicago Underground Film Festival, where it received a jury award. However, it never went into general release and was not available on VHS or DVD until the release in 2015 of a box set containing all three films on DVD and Blu-ray. This was partly due to Spheeris refusing to relinquish the rights to the first two parts of the trilogy in order to enable the third to be released. According to an article by Laura Snapes, "there was little demand to see such a depressing movie, and the few distribution offers that Spheeris got required her to hand over the rights to the first two movies, which she refused to do".[4] Decline III was also released separately via streaming video.

Holy shit. What a masterpiece.

This movie is based on the real life disappearance of 3 civil rights workers, and the search that followed for them.

Everything about this movie is about as perfect as it could be. Gene Hackman and William Dafoe (and the rest of the cast) give impeccable performances. The pacing is god damned perfection, and the writing is excellent. The music and cinematography are also top notch.

I don't want to spoil a single thing about this movie, but I can tell you enthusiastically that you will not regret watching it.

After seeing the movie, you could also check out some interesting background info on the events from the period itself, such as contemporary reporting on the event from CBS, and the documentary Summer in Mississippi from 1965.

This is apparently a seminal classic, but I've only just come across it.

It has surprisingly good pacing, acting, and writing for the time. Interestingly, it was directed by John Huston, who I personally knew from voicing Gandalf in the 1977 Ralph Bakshi animated Lord of The Rings movie, so that was a fun surprise!

The direction this one goes surprised me a few times, and I'm glad I saw it. Would recommend.

First watched this one ages ago and got reminded by a meme post about insurance claims with superheroes. This one is actually based on a true story.

This is a sort of comedy western, based around a high stakes poker game. I saw it years ago and loved it. Truth be told, I can't remember a great deal more about it, and don't want to spoil it for myself by looking it up, but I definitely remember enjoying it a lot.

I watched this for the first time the other day, and thought it was absolutely awesome.

While it's a comedy film, it surprisingly touched on a lot of areas seen in David Graeber's 'Bullshit Jobs' concept, 14 years earlier.

Well acted, supremely funny and well written, and a particular joy to anyone who's worked in an office, or had a family member who did. There's not really any low or slow point in the film, it's steadily excellent the whole way through.

The film is about an advanced American defense system, named Colossus, becoming sentient. After being handed full control, Colossus' draconian logic expands on its original nuclear defense directives to assume total control of the world...

In Cage's hands, cartoonish moments are imbued with real emotion and real emotions become cartoons. Everything – from individual scenes down to single lines of dialogue – feel like they have been embraced as opportunities for creation. Cage is usually interesting even when his films are not.

In a 2020 interview, Cage revealed that the released version of the film was recut by Bob Weinstein without Charles' permission and that the latter's original version remains unreleased. In 2024, Charles released his original cut of the film onto his YouTube channel, which runs over an hour longer.
