The U.S. has tightened its fuel blockade on Cuba, but the island refuses to surrender. Manolo de los Santos, executive director of the People's Forum and researcher at Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research, just returned from Havana and brings an on-the-ground report on how Cubans are surviving — and resisting — Trump's escalating attacks. From surgeons operating by cell phone light to farmers organizing collective food distribution, Manolo details the "creative resistance" keeping Cuba alive. De los Santos exposes who is really behind U.S. policy — a small minority of Cuban-American hardliners, not the American people —and how Washington’s escalating threats are driven by a “desperate response” to the Cuban people’s resolve, insisting the goal is to force submission through economic strangulation. #breakthroughnews

Lebanon-based journalist Hussein Assaf of VPol exposes the Israel-Lebanon "ceasefire" as war containment, not peace. He discusses Israel's assassination of reporter Amal Khalil — the ninth journalist killed by Israel in Lebanon this year — along with U.S.-backed daily violations, how Lebanon’s government is trying to strip away the country’s only real resistance to Israeli aggression, and why the latest talks are a "charade." "The U.S. and Israel are just buying time," Assaf warns, as the region edges toward wider war. #breakthroughnews

Support our work: http://novara.media/support Buy Novara Media merch: https://shop.novaramedia.com/ The 21st century runs on batteries: from phones and laptops, to electric vehicles, drones and clean energy. Embedded in these technologies are batteries containing rare earth minerals, drawn from a brutal supply chain that begins in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The race to electrify the global energy system is underway, but awareness about this supply chain is woefully inadequate among the users of these technologies - many of whom profess to have green politics. On Downstream this week, Aaron Bastani spoke with Nicholas Niarchos, author of The Elements of Power: A Story of War, Technology, and the Dirtiest Supply Chain on Earth. How has the history of the Democratic Republic of the Congo unfolded over the past two centuries? How has China come to control so much of the rare earth supply chain? Is foreign states' activity in the DRC development, or a new form of colonialism? And is this supply chain now set to replace fossil fuels in the 21st century, as the dirtiest supply chain on earth?

Support our work: http://novara.media/support It’s the question that will come to define our lives: is our society going to collapse? But the field of collapse research is fragmented, chaotic, and often just plain deranged. Who can you trust? Luke Kemp is the author of *Goliath’s Curse* and a Research Affiliate at the Cambridge University Centre for the Study of Existential Risk. And he’s also a political radical. He told Richard Hames about how close we’ve got to the same tipping point that brought down every other empire in history, why states are criminal gangs in disguise, and why Rome was the ISIS of its day. Do Your Own Research is a new show from Novara Media about the systems that make the modern world possible. Music by Iglooghost. Buy Novara Media merch: https://shop.novaramedia.com/

In 1996, Brazilian military police opened fire on a peaceful march of landless workers – killing 21 people in what became known as the Eldorado do Carajás Massacre. Thirty years later, justice is still incomplete. Most of those responsible were never held accountable, and the deeper forces behind the violence – political elites, landowners, and corporate interests – remain largely untouched. But the movement they tried to destroy didn’t disappear, it grew. BreakThrough News traveled to the state of Pará in northern Brazil to follow members of the Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra (MST) as they marched for four days—retracing the same road where their comrades were killed. This march is more than a memorial. It’s part of a nationwide mobilization known as “Red April,” where thousands organize, occupy land, and demand agrarian reform as a solution to hunger and inequality. Along the way, we hear from survivors, youth organizers, and current members of the movement—who say the same conditions that led to the massacre still exist today: Extreme land inequality Violence against rural workers Expansion of agribusiness and mining into peasant land And a justice system that protects the powerful For the MST, memory is not just about the past—it’s a tool for organizing in the present.
