Strip by: Midnight Strike

Jon: Garfield, have you seen my striped tie? I can't find it anywhere!

{Jon pulls out a polka-dot tie}

Jon: Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wear my polka dot tie instead.

Garfield: Now he's a dip coming and going.

The author writes:

I took a strip from 1989 (the year the original Game Boy was released) and indexed the colour palette to the Game Boy's four shades of green.

Original strip: 1989-12-07.

{Garfield looks in a mirror}

Garfield: Above all...

Garfield: Do not forget...

Garfield: To love yourself.

The author writes:

I made two Kierkegaard-inspired strips (see #886). (Thanks to Wikiquote for the quotes.) I couldn't decide which one to send in at first, then decided it shouldn't be an Either/Or question. (Hey, you try working "On the Concept of Irony with Continual Reference to Socrates" into a joke.)

Garfield: {eating a cookie} But a cookie will do.

The author writes:

After seeing Garfield Minus Panel Boundaries, I felt the need to add some actual truth to the original strip.

Calvin: {to Garfield} Is it my imagination, or do you insult me at every opportunity?

{Scene changes to Garfield standing in a lurid alien landscape of incredible rock formations, with Spaceman Spiff pointing a raygun at him.}

Garfield: {to Calvin, as scene changes back to normal reality} That's assuming you have an imagination.

The author writes:

It should be obvious, but in case anyone's worried, rest assured that I drew all the Calvins myself. Not to mention the background for the second panel (does it look familiar to anyone?).

Original strip: 2002-11-02.

Garfield: I gotta get help for this CRC in my back.

Garfield: Hey, guys.

Garfield: What we have here is a failure to communicate.

The author writes:

Digital information is fragile. This is the result of just 5 single-bit errors in the JPEG data stream. Of course, this is why we have cyclic redundancy checks and other error detection and correction codes.

Hello fellow Garfield fans!

About this community and how I post the comic strip… The comics are posted in chronological order on the day (usually) they were released. Posting them to match the release date adds a bit of fun and nostalgia to match the experience of reading them in the newspaper for first time. Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips. It really sucked when I missed a day. Only years later, when I got the books was I able to catch up on the missed strips.

Garfield is an American comic strip created by Jim Davis. Originally published locally as Jon in 1976, then in nationwide syndication from 1978 as Garfield, it chronicles the life of the title character Garfield the cat, his human owner Jon Arbuckle, and Odie the dog. As of 2013, it was syndicated in roughly 2,580 newspapers and journals and held the Guinness World Record for being the world's most widely syndicated comic strip...
