(Reposting @[email protected]'s post to federate sticky post and adding a bit of new info. Here you can find the original post.

Additionally: A link to a post where the dev answers questions about buy-european.net's philosophy and reasoning around their decisions.

We worked the last months on a new completely ad-free database for European products, brands, services and companies. A few days ago we released the site. The website focuses on usability with a simple search form and a clear structure. After the technical development we are now in the process of filling the database with content. The website is currently available in English and German!

You can also submit your own suggestions for European products, Non-European products that you try to find alternatives to, and categories that may be missing.

If you have any feedback, we would appreciate it. If you like it and want to share it, we appreciate that too. :)

Thanks in advance!

Could you list Friendica European instances on the sidebar?

Sounds like a good idea, I'll put it on my todo list! Sorry for the delay, a bit of a busy week.

I'll discuss this in the mod chat since I don't know much about friendica but I believe others know more :)

Thanks for considering it, it has features more akin to what Facebook used to be than other common Fediverse platforms, you don't have communities per se but you can group people into a feed (maybe akin to Bluesky's feed system where you can build custom feeds although Friendica also has group chats like Facebook's group chats which Bluesky doesn't AFAIK - though they do have a feature called Forums too which might be a closer approach to Facebook communities), you can communicate with people in the Fediverse (ActivityPub) and some other protocols too including Bluesky, it's a lot more convenient than Mastodon for someone coming from Facebook not too fond of Twitter and Mastodon is more like a proper modern evolution of Twitter than of Facebook so it seems an improper replacement for common people to jump over to, there may be another Fediverse Facebook-like platform but I'm not aware of one as close as Friendica is to Facebook, you have even the events calendar which people on Facebook used a lot before they shit the feed with too many stuff not related to friends and it worked properly

You can check all feature list from their website on friendi.ca/about/features

Hello Hanz, sorry for the delay! The friendica instances have been added!

It's a short list but we wanted to vet the instances a bit with criteria and these are the best we found. Feel free to suggest more if you know good instances in Europe!

Looks great and is easy to use, even when you're just looking for new stuff. I hope you continue to update it with more products too! So far I only have one question, and that is where the server is hosted?

A good question! I didn't find this information at a quick glance of the website or our previous threads so I'll ping the dev:

The origin servers are located in the EU with a EU headquartered hoster. Our CDN provider is also headquartered in the EU. We do not use Google Analytics but self-hosted open source analytics software on our own servers unlike some other websites that focus on the same topic.

Nice to hear that you practice what you preach ☺️

There’s so many of these right now it’s hard to actually keep track.

im counting 4 now, maybe there are more? seems a bit odd to have so much work done on creating the same thing, and relying on people emailing things that are missing and just hoping someone will update their sites. at least isthisfrom.eu has their data on github so you can update it yourself

I just need an app to: scan the barcode of a product and he returns me EU or NOT EU. That's it.
