Fun fact they actually aren't signaling Help on the cover. Apparently spelling help didn't look appealing so they just made up the poses.
That is indeed a fun fact.
And if the picture I found for how you actually signal it, is correct. I can sort of understand the reasoning.
Now the question just is how many people would understand the Beatles signal?
