Ok, with that out of the way, I don't think it's fair to say that this is a problem with the battery.
The component in question is inside the battery housing but not actually part of the energy-storage mechanism. It's just an under-specced mechanical switch. This sort of design flaw could happen in any car, not just an electric car.
(I do suppose we're more likely to see problems like this in electric cars because they're so new and haven't gone through many iterations of improvement.)
They are even more hideous in person and I didn't know that was possible.
I remember being stoked when rumors were swirling about the Electric Mustang™ and then it turned out to be that. It looks terrible and how is it in any way a mustang?
