Users cannot assume that any post has been vetted and must do their own investigation.
Some basic posting restrictions are in place to filter out the most egregious attempts to scam the community, without adding an insurmountable barrier to aid. Please read the comm rules below carefully before posting.

- All mutual aid requests must go in this community.
- Accounts must be at least 3 months old to post mutual aid requests. Exceptions can be made with comm moderator or admin approval.
- Accounts requesting aid must have some prior posting history on the site outside the mutual aid comm. Exceptions can be made with comm moderator or admin approval.
- Mods do not vet individual mutual aid requests. Donate at your own risk.
- Do not request donations for funding anything explicitly illegal.
- Comments giving unsolicited advice will be removed. (See below)
- Comments or posts that are critical of any mutual aid post or user will be removed. (See below)
- Posts containing opsec leaks will be removed.

Moderator Pinning Rules:

Moderators are strictly prohibited from promoting/endorsing/pinning individual mutual aid requests (especially those of their own) as this creates unfair post visibility and could therefore benefit more from that than the standard user. Moderators caught engaging in this behavior will be swiftly removed from the moderator board with extreme prejudice.

Moderators are allowed to pin and crosspost donation requests for large scope issues such as natural disaster relief funds and bail funds ((Example)[https://hexbear.net/post/16574) along with other crowd or moderator-compiled informational resources pertaining to donating or volunteering (Example), so long as the utmost due diligence is done prior to endorsement, especially in the case of directing people to donate to non-profit organizations.

Financial documents of non-profit organizations available to the public must be heavily scrutinized before moderator endorsement, and links to those must also be included in the endorsement post to help the community make their own decision if they should donate.

MODERATORS
what kind of dev are you? I can check my company for roles
I've done a little of everything, but I've done the least web front-end and mobile, so probably not those.
I also have some network security background and some ML-related background.
I think part of my problem is that I've done a bit of everything and not really specialized too much, so for a lot of roles I'm a good match but not a top match. I've tried to (de)emphasize different experiences for different roles, but that hasn't seemed to help much so far.
Let me know what you find, any other input is good as well. Thanks!

Good insight tbh. Depression and money stress have me unfocused & not thinking long-term. Not sure specifically how to address that, but it's definitely something I need to think through.
Realizing you are in control of some things, such as how you present yourself to potential employers, is a great first step. Momentum can be a big factor with these things - when you have it, recruiters are popping out of the bushes on your way into the office offering new opportunities. When you don’t, it can feel like you’re stuck in the mud with no way out. I’ve been there amigo. Baby steps can get you going again. Consider giving yourself 15-20 minutes per day to write down some things you could learn/improve/change, that you actually have control over, and then pick one and do it. Before you know it you will be an unstoppable force of an engineer, and then the right opportunity will present itself. Good luck, pulling for you!
