I don't know a single millennial or gen xer who cant cook or couldnt cook at 16.
Millennials here, can cook, and pretty much all of my friends are capable of at least basic cooking
But damn-near everyone I know who went to college and lived in a dorm has at least one story about the time the fire alarm went off because some kid who had never cooked for themselves didn't realize they needed to do something really basic like add water to Kraft Mac & cheese and smoked out the building.
Similarly, my sister (also a millennial, albeit a younger one) had a friend who didn't realize that after she (successfully) made some Mac & cheese, that the leftovers needed to be refrigerated. She had a Tupperware container of it sitting in her desk or something, and it stunk up her room a couple days later until my sister helped sniff out the problem.
Those are probably some of the more egregious examples, but you can pretty easily imagine that there were plenty more who couldn't manage or wouldn't attempt anything that didn't come out of a box or freezer with directions printed on the package.
