Donald Trump Jr., the president’s eldest son, drew a wave of online ridicule after complaining that Democrats want to make Ohio a state.

Trump Jr. made the remark Monday while actually in the Buckeye State to campaign for Republican candidates.

“They want to, what is it? Save democracy by destroying democracy,” Trump Jr. said of Democrats. “They wanna pack the Supreme Court. They wanna make Ohio a state, make D.C. a state, have permanent one-party rule.”

Eh. Hilarious, but obviously just a "mental typo". Everyone makes them. I'm all for poking a little fun, but also giving people room to make mistakes like this without it being a huge deal.

edit: Jesus, I didn't realize I had to explain things. Obama said something about 53 states. Also a mental typo. These things happen. Waste your time on these, sure, but we all have limited energy. I'd rather spend my time usefully fighting fascism rather than wasting it on things like this that don't actually matter. But y'know, you do you. All it does is distract you from the important things, but it's your right to waste your time if you want. And sure, have a litle laugh about it. Whatever.

    "Potatoe"

    "Slick willie"

    "Enthusiastic scream"

    "Swiftboating"

    "Thanks Obama"

    "Biden gaffe machine"

    "But her emails"

    "But her laugh"

...But when a nazi scumbag has an awkward moment, suddenly the calls for decency and measured reactions. Fuck that times infinity. Any and every low blow is absolute fair game at this point.

"Potatoe" was Dan Qualye, Republican, though, right? Who was famously then immortalised as the lowest possible ranking in the Civilization game series.

Was the person you replied to ever inconsistent with their stance about "clemency for small political/social gaffes"?

You're making it seem like they're soapboxing for Don Jr. when they could just be consistently against making fun of people.

Hang them all for who they are and what they've done, not their brain farts.

Stating an unpopular moral highground against popular humor and satisfaction is difficult, I see you.

Hang them all for who they are and what they’ve done, not their brain farts.

Yes. That is the point exactly.

    against popular humor

Not against humour, it's jsut a waste of time and energy to make a big deal about this. Energy better spent actually fighting fascism.

That said, it's fine to laugh. But people are spending a lot of energy on this, and there's only so much energy we have.
