You have been misinformed about fluoride in toothpaste and water. Please take the time to inform yourself and trust in facts, not propaganda.

Not meaning any disrespect or negativity towards you, just a heads up.

Also, my fluoride jelly says to use it once a week at most and never more than 5 minutes in one go. I wonder why.

Are you imagining that toothpaste and municipal water supplies contain hydrofluoric acid? That's like saying hydrogen peroxide, H2O2, contains water, H2O.

And what the hell is fluoride jelly and why do you need it?

Fluoride jelly is the stuff the dentist puts on your teeth. You can buy similar stuff from the pharmacy. I don't know what the exact name is in English.

Read the first paragraph of the Wikipedia article. I'm not gonna explain it to you, unless you didn't have any chemistry in high school.

Edit: actually, Wikipedia has better articles about this. Read the "overdose" section in this one instead. It's pretty clear I believe.

I think you need to retake chemistry then, right now you're the one spreading misinformation. The Wikipedia article is about a completely unrelated compound.

Maybe this one is more helpful: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluoride_toxicity?wprov=sfla1

Anyways, don't trust random medical advice on Lemmy.

Although fluoride is safe for dental health at low concentrations,[1] sustained consumption of large amounts of soluble fluoride salts is dangerous

Literally your link. I'm in my late 30s. I've only lived in places with Fluoride in the water my entire life, and both my parents and I have chosen to have regular fluoride treatments and fluoride toothpaste. I don't need advice from Lemmy, if what you were saying were true I'd be dead decades ago.

As the other person said, everything will kill you if you have too much of it. Water can kill you if you drink too much. Either you believe some very incorrect things, or you're a troll who is doing pretty well here getting us riled up.
