Basically, I'm due to interview a a polls/elections guru about the midterms a couple days after the polls close.

He's very nitty gritty and will talk about specifics of gerrymandering and so on, it's more or less my job to rein him in so he talks about the juiciest bits before the audience tunes out.

I'm not American, so to watch the midterms as they come in I'd have to stay up beyond midnight, and obviously no one really talks about it here either in more than vague terms, so please enlighten me!

Obviously I've done a fair amount of research already, the problem is sorting which are the most interesting without an actual ear to the ground. America is a very big place.

Arguably one of the most relevant topics to US elections right now is influence by Israel. Israel is partly responsible for starting the war against Iran. Israel uses US funding to do a genocide.

Something you should look into is how many states have anti-BDS laws. BDS is an organization that formed in 2005 to promote "Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions" against the state of Israel. Since 2013, 38 states have passed laws against BDS. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-BDS_laws#Anti-BDS_laws_in_the_United_States

There is a website called AIPAC tracker. AIPAC is one of the Israeli lobby groups, there are others such as CUFI and DMFI. AIPAC tracker is a website that tracks the amount of funding that Israel lobby groups have contributed to a politician's campaigns. AIPAC tracker also has an endorsement list of candidates that haven't accepted money from Israel lobbies.

Yes I'll defo be asking questions about that, and Elon musk money.

Interestingly another academic I interviewed recently felt that donor influence overall is overblown, as grassroots campaigning is a lot more common now. They felt AIPAC influence especially is overblown because most of the politicians were ideologically aligned with it already. They felt the explanation is simple enough - establishment politicians are all Zionists, and establishment politicians are all America ever gets.

    But yeah, defo gonna ask.
