Where else do you suggest, without building concentration camps?

Actually curious how the number of them is changing over time. IIRC it happened due to Tories just not bothering to process them fast enough.

The value of a hotel stay includes a lot more than the stripped back services these people have access to, it's not like they are on holiday, and they're in rooms not meant to accommodate families or extended stays which can make it an unpleasant experience, not whatever you're imagining.
Hostels have even less infrastructure to deal with people in them or deal with government bureaucracy that goes with any of these programs.
Camps like ex army bases have been suggested and I think even trialled but have their own issues, soldiers will put up with the bare minimum and the bases are no longer fit to provide that.

Soldiers are treated better than detained migrants and despite that, there have been court cases over mistreatment of soldiers in army bases.

How is it key? Many detained migrants don't work mainly because the government prohibits it since Blair.

Incorrect - detained migrants aren't allowed to work due to a government decision, even if they had a work visa when they entered the country legally. Working used to be allowed if the border force failed to decide whether someone was a refugee in good time.

Can you imagine staying in a hostel for literally months? With children?

Why can't the people who have nothing pay for a hotel?

Not all of them. Some are indebted to the smugglers who are lurking and waiting time to demand the "successful" migrants to pay them back.

Also, remember that only a minority of would-be refugees are smuggled into the country. Most of them enter on visas or other legal entries, then apply for refuge, which is what the UK government currently say to do because there are no legal routes to apply for refuge when not already in the UK.

    Why can't they

What is it that you think a "refugee" actually is?

Most that come to the UK aren't genuine

I'm sure you wouldn't make a claim like that without a legitimate source

If it's easy to do, please cite your source.

Your assertion that holding a passport from a non-war-zone country makes a claim false is simply false and you can realise this by considering two examples: first, someone from a former war zone who aided the British Army; secondly, someone from a minority the UK recognises as persecuted by their government, such as a Bahá'i in Iran even when it wasn't at war.
