"'becoming' the norm"? In terms of just 'Democracy', China, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan have all had parliamentary elections for many decades.

South Korea was the last to the party on that front. Wonder what happened there thinkin-lenin

Love me a democracy where every former president has either been impeached, arrested and imprisoned or resigned in disgrace.

The flip side of that is of course the fact that the southern Korean working class is very militant. The problem of course is decades of anti-communism and thus a lack of strong socialist organizing outside of trade unionism, but southern Koreans are generally more class conscious than Statesian workers. The ROK is a powder keg not purely from the top down, but from the bottom up as well. Dialectics and all that.
