I had this exact experience on Lemmy, on blahaj actually, when a mod banned me for trying to give an honest and inclusive answer. Apparently I was feeding the trolls and banned as some kind of zero tolerance thing? No idea what happened but it reminded me of the Reddit mods who are irrationally angry at anyone who isn't 100% aligned with their world view.

    Blahaj has a very strict stance. I thought it was a bit much at first myself, but their instance doesn't have the same feel of those snobbish reddit/lemmy communities that ban anyone who doesn't agree with their top posters/mods. Their intense moderation is meant to encourage participation which sounds paradoxical but does seem to be working.

    It's very possible the user didn't know.

    Sometimes people don't know things and that's ok.

    You don't know some things.

    But /srs for a moment like I agree, like .ml .world are the biggest instances, they're gonna be the first ones most new users go to when joining Lemmy & you're not rlly gonna know what you get on an instance 'til you've joined Lemmy.
