I joked about Mario Kart World being emulatable before New Year but I guess jokes are real now. What was the timeline on PS5 emulation again? Booting into title screen in the summer?

(nxnative is apparently a Switch 1 ARM translation layer for macs and the developer seems to have a legit reputation)

I'm curious about the big picture effect this kind of thing will have on the software industry as a whole over the next 5 years. Crossplatform and opensource now being forced onto closed sourced software against the will of capital.

Streaming-only-games might be the last line of defense for DRM heavy AAA side of the industry, but I can't see the low supply of in-demand cloud GPUs meeting the demand of users who might already have a GPU or won't appreciate attempting to play latency sensitive games over ancient pre-911 internet technology.

And as far as AI-cloned games go, probably in 5 years you could point claude code at a downloaded copy of any movie and have it converted to a playable unreal game in less than a week. And regardless of slop, the AI cloned version could have all the DLC be free and all the pay-to-win removed.

The moats may become deserts, both metaphorically and literally.

I don't have it on hand, but there's a YouTube channel that tests newer models and harness pointing it at blender and giving them photos of airbnb/zillow listings. Pretty impressive results. Especially, since we're still relatively early in the game. Will Smith eating spaghetti was in March 2023.

    Edit: found it

the problem of game is game itself, not assets. how do you hunt down bug with wall clipping and the like, how does it feel to parry a strike (tight/not tight), is the floating feeling there. with propagation of slop, unique art styles will be the differentiating factor or gameplay. (does prices of farm upgrade make a tiny bit of sense in the road of addiction?)

or same as mobile games - giant pr budget, the market that was sloppified by clones from the get-go.

assets will jump in quality, you can even now take an image into textured 3d model instead of fumbling with steam shop (but ironically that would take more effort, become steam shop asset seller now, fellow hexbear).

the big software companies are largely cloud revenue and ad dependent, they don't give a shit that adobe will get one shot by its vibe twin.

The real remaining filter will remain playtesting. Not because you can't have a bot jump at every single wall in your game 1000 times per second to look for bugs, but because good ideas and iterating through the development process can't be skipped. The difference between slop and a game made with AI tooling is and will remain "did the developer actually have an idea beyond copying the current thing and did they playtest it to make it fun".

all the DLC be free and all the pay-to-win removed.

This sucks. People are going to be wasting their time playing Angry Birds Eternal with slopped-in infinite birds rather than something cool, like Einhander.

    Disconnect from the Market-Matrix.

Connect an N64 controller to a Mister FPGA and play Shadowgate 64 for a lonely, soooky King's Field atmosphere.
