Something I’ve been rolling over in my head. The typical stereotype is that young people are all tech savvy and up on the latest tech, while older people are bad with technology and yearn for a time without all the new gizmos and gadgets. However in my personal life I’ve found it to be really quite the opposite lately. Older people, especially baby boomers, while still bad with technology, are really quite into new tech, AI especially. While younger people are more likely to criticize new tech ime, even that tech that many of them grew up with, such as social media. Even the internet in general. When pressed most young people I know will acknowledge the benefits of the internet, but nonetheless there is the sentiment that it’s been injurious to their lives. Wondering if this generation divide pitting young anti-tech people against older pro-tech people is familiar to anybody.

What prompted this post was a discussion with my mom. I have to get a new car and I was going on about how I’m gonna need to find a car without that big ass iPad screen and hopefully some buttons, even if only for volume. She says idk what your problem is I have that [ipad screen] in my car and I love it. To me hating those iPad screens in cars is a pretty common sentiment among my peers and I realized this is a very common situation - my mom being excited about this sort of newer tech and myself and other younger people I know having the complete opposite stance

I think it depends on how you approach technology and what you show young people. One of my kids is almost 4 and has taken to games pretty well. They can navigate a handheld and control a character in a game alright. I also taught them how to use the printer to scan the pictures they draw at care. It was so exciting for them to learn they could press a few buttons and make a machine do something. We also don't just give our kids phones to look at, and the TV is for communal viewing
