When I was a kid I wanted to be a CEO of a tech company. (Which was turbo cringe.)

Now I'd like to have a boring job and be someone's mom/aunt.

I think that's just part of being an adult. You have fewer possible futures when you're older, plus you have a better sense of who you are. I wanted to be a power ranger until I was like 10.

i feel like this is an underrated aspect of it. when i was younger i always wanted to live in a kewl city like NYC or seattle for the nightlife, but then i got older and realized i don't really vibe with that scene, so nowadays my goal is simply to move somewhere where the environment (both built and natural) is pleasant enough for me to go outside most of the year. same with jobs, back then i thought i would be this elite software engineer working on cutting edge systems, then i actually got into the tech industry and realized i'm not that driven or passionate about computer to reach those levels, so now i'm willing to do whatever as long as it pays the bills and isn't completely miserable.

I enjoy programming, but dear god I'd be constantly angry at crap not working.

Plus I don't thing anyone wants some woman in a cubical constantly screaming at computers and cursing software developers.

for me it's that i like programming but i hate that there's always some new thing or another you're pressured to learn, otherwise you're falling behind. and like you said sometimes the new shiny doesn't work, either because it was slopped together (was a thing even before AI code) or they changed shit in an update just because, and then you have to spend a bunch of time troubleshooting that instead of actually programming
