Have the ambassador commute? From a residence presumably unless its an AI ambassador. Then they’d need premises in which to work, and the place the ambassador works is called… an embassy. So your costcutting involves doubling the number of buildings required, plus mileage between them.

A large number of French people work in Monaco. France is responsible for Monaco’s defence. The Monagasque Minister of State is appointed on the advice of the French Government. Monaco is in a customs union with France. All these things require a diplomatic mission.

Yes Monaco is like a 5 minute drive or train ride from France. Also where the fuck did you get AI from? You can commute like a normal person.

Doubling the number of buildings? You don't need an embassy there or a building in France. Maybe they can rent an office if need be, but honestly if a French citizen has a problem they can walk the 15 minutes it would take to France.

You don't need a French embassy to handle issues in a country this small negotiate a treaty to handle the simple stuff. Which honestly given the open borders and shared systems its not much that isn't covered.

As for defense that's why I said keep an ambassador. They can be in Monaco daily and attend all important state functions while living across the border in France.

Everything could be handled without maintaining a facility in the country with ease. Stop wasting the people's money.

Actually you make a great point make Monaco pay for it's own defense. It's one of the wealthiest nations per capita in Europe.

So if it isnt an AI, it’s a person, who requires somewhere to live.

if a French citizen has a problem they can walk the 15 minutes it would take to France.

You’re confusing an embassy with a consulate. Embassies deal with governments rather than members of the public.

You underestimate the complexity of diplomatic relations, even between France and Monaco, and suggesting Monaco raise an army and build a navy is not compatible with this plane of reality.

Yes the ambassador can rent an apartment or buy a home within commuting distance like the rest of us

So expect France to pay for a nation whose population is 30% millionaires. A country who has no income tax unless you are a French national living there? Seems a bit unfair, they can join Nato and contribute a comparable amount of their GDP like the rest

    ...within commuting distance of what?

You seem to think an embassy is the ambassadors house?

They don't need a full embassy, an ambassador will do. Like I said if they insist a small government office can be operated in existing French owned governmental buildings across the border. No need to pay for a large independent facility. The ambassador can commute to attend appropriate talks in Monaco

A full time embassy is asinine for a country with 30k people living in it less than a 29 minute walk from the French border on all sides

You keep saying commute. Commute to where? "Existing French owned governmental buildings across the border"... that's... that's an embassy

Do you know where Monaco is? Commute from France use buildings in France. The ambassador can commute for Monaco state events and talks.

An yes this is different, it's different to save cost. Effective outcomes for French citizens will be the same

So the number of buildings is the same but now it's worse?

Once again, do you think the ambassador lives in an embassy?

No, they recieve free housing in the form of an official residence while living abroad. Something that can be cut by a commute.

And before you get hung up on a commute where as I've said an exhausting number of times a commute to attend state functions held by Monaco or diplomatic talks with the Monaco government. All of these would take place in buildings that are owned by Monaco.

The entire point of an embassy is for you to host things. So you're suggesting they have

    • a place of residence in France for an ambassador
    • a normal place for an ambassador
    • renting expensive facilities in Monaco for special events

Rather than, y'know, using the one they own.
