This is gonna piss some people (men) off, I can already tell...

This is an excellent point and I think it demonstrates really well what people mean by "all men"

Even tho I love men as much as the next straight girl...bear for me, please

I'm glad to hear that. I was most encouraged by the amount of people calling this out as artificially inflammatory engagement bait though, many of who were a lot more articulate and verbose than myself. Do you think the conversation in the twitter screenshot actually happened?

I think the conversation in the screenshot is a literary device to demonstrate what people mean when they say "All men" when talking about sexual assault, rape, and our rape culture.

I think that 'literary devices' like this are, if well intentioned in the first place, counterproductive. Sharing our experiences and empathizing with one another brings us together and allows for healing and growth. Artificially intensified narratives serve to divide, isolate, and perpetuate a culture war serving only the elite. Even when well intentioned they're crafted for maximum impact and lack the core of humanity required for genuine connection. They outshine and obfuscate less superficially impactful but more heartfelt attempts to relate, keep us angry and afraid, and interfere with real progress. They're modern mass media, a far cry from the organic engagement people fled major platforms to seek here. Angry mobs have formed, and we've both been downvoted in the last 10 minutes (wasn't me). I don't think that's what anyone wants besides the chronically online addicted to intensity of experience itself. If it ever becomes the default here, if people stop calling it out, this place will have become just another reddit and hopefully someone will have told me about the next place where actual humans can go to share their thoughts and feelings.

I’m not sure it’s artificially intensified when there have been several prominent cases of groups of men raping and assaulting women on college campuses recently.

I mean... It absolutely is? Those very real and very fucked up events actually happened, and spinning 'literary devices' around them where the noble right-minded hero dunks on some despicable idiot obscures and distracts from that brutal human reality. Give the 13y/os who lack the experience to take these 'literary devices' at anything other than face value a chance to exist as something besides the idiotically evil, inhuman, and faceless "all men" they're portrayed as in this kind of propaganda and there's a much better chance they'll take it. I would go as far as saying content like this, whether intentionally or not, serves to reinforce the rape culture it criticizes on its face.

On a more personal level, it's disappointing to have written all that for you to dismiss in under a minute. Doesn't really seem like enough time to read it, much less put any thought into responding. I am not at all interested in fighting a culture war, if you aren't willing to respond to me then this isn't really a conversation

As I've said before elsewhere, I'm not going to apologize for being quick-witted. Your comments about downvotes and such didn't warrant a reaction imo. Downvotes don't mean anything to me and they change quickly.

I don't think that memes like this are ever going to stop being called out - Lemmy has a userbase that is close to 80% male. If anything, I would like to see more posts and more comments and more conversations about the prevalence of misogyny and how we can work together to push back on things like rape jokes and victim blaming and all that I commonly see here. Stop fighting women for pointing out how shitty rape culture is and start working with us to shape this place to be less caustic to women and minorities.

You make a lot of assumptions here very confidently, my gender included. I would attribute your response time more to that extremely limiting shortcut than a quick wit.

"Stop fighting women for pointing out how shitty rape culture is and start working with us" certainly felt exclusionary. Think it's about time I touched some grass. Whether or not you get a chance to do the same, I hope you find something to enjoy today. Happy posting.
