Consumers are increasingly confronted with conflicting information surrounding how much protein they should have and which protein sources are healthiest, most sustainable, and best value for money. Cambridge research has uncovered the truth.

Totally on board with most of what your saying here and also with humanely treating animals/giving them rights, but bugs? I just can't get on board with them having rights. Unlimited genocide on mosquitoes. Not that I want to eat them. I just want them gone.

Rights aren't to give but to acknowledge. The same video goes into insect sentience in the later part. Mosquitoes do literally harm us, so it's fair to want to protect yourself from them. But "genocide"...? Wtf. The analog to "unlimited genocide on the first world" here would be: "unlimited genocide on humans," the oppressors.

Also genocide =/= extinction. There is nothing inherently bad about extinction or depopulation, you're right on that. But genocide, is not right. I'm imagining the worst since you had to dismiss them having rights.

  • Idk what the worst is but yeah I'd like us to systematically hunt down every mosquito on the planet and render them extinct. Most likely by releasing some into the wild that introduce genes which lead to sterility in a few generations and just keep doing this until they no longer exist.

I'm probably coming from a different perspective. Because I don't really care if they're sentient or not. If they have evolved to be a parasitic organism that spreads disease and whatnot through other species I see no problem with simply wiping them from existence. So long as we do it properly and study the impact it will have on the wider ecosystem, and I've seen studies that say their extinction wouldn't have a very big impact. Those might be wrong though. I'd want us to make absolutely sure before actually doing it.
