And what if that includes being a degenerate and playing a game nonstop for four days straight? Asking for a friend.

Completely fine. Unless that game is League of Legends in which case you are pretty much beyond help.

Kind of like OSRS in the beginning.

But isn't that what Classic was already doing?

no, OSRS has spun off into an entirely different game with tons of unique content that doesn't exist in RS3. Classic was just wow as it was when it was released, no new content. I think the idea of Forever is for it to spin off into new content like OSRS has

(I'm an osrs player not super in touch with the wow world so apologies if any of that is inaccurate)

Its the classic wow experience but with new stuff. The problem it is solving is that many people, myself included, really enjoy the classic version of the game, but its a game that has been around now for over 20 years and been played to death amd completely 'solved'. So they add new dungeons, zones, change all the items up etc. New expansions dont work because they change the game significantly. Classic vs current wow are completely different games.

Its also makes a good time for a new player to join because everyone is learning again so theres not SO much of a knowledge gap.

I still don't get it. They have WoW and WoW classic, so why did they need another version of WoW? What does it bring to the table that makes it worth playing as opposed to playing one of the others?

Im not sure if you know Diablo, but I can make a comparison there. People really like diablo 2. There is an expansion(dlc) to that game. Its still the same game, theyre both definitely diablo 2. But some people want to play without the expansion, some with. Thats classic and forever. Then there was diablo 3, some people liked the game but it was radically different despite being the same genre and themes and characters and attracted a different audience. That is what wow expansions are like.

So basically theyre just going back and adding dlc to classic, to freshen it up for people who like that game and want more of it.

From what i understand though, it's not a dlc for one of the other two, but it's own separate WoW instead. So, if they already have regular WoW and Classic WoW, what does the third have to make it worth playing over the other two? I thought it supposedly takes place between Warcraft 3 and WoW classic, so why play that instead of Classic?

I already responded to that other chain but I think OSRS makes a good parallel here too.

there were a lot of people who didn't want new content to be added to OSRS. they wanted it to be left as it was in 2007. if they had gotten what they wanted it would have been Classic.

honestly I would be surprised if classic stays online for many more years but I would be surprised if forever shuts down any time soon

I mean, it depends. If it's just you have the time off and that's how you intend to use it there's no judgment there. However, if it comes from a place of depression and using the game as a dopamine escape hatch, that's not necessarily a good way to handle the depression, but it's still ultimately your choice what to do with your life. Even then, that's not judgment worthy as much as worthy of concern for your friend who may not be doing well.
