This is a response to this: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/10/20/2026-21447/notice-of-order-regarding-exclusion-and-removal-of-deepseek-products-from-federal-civilian-executive

The department of homeland security doesn't want any data to get sent overseas, so DeepSeek did this so people can keep using their products for free. Which fits their business model - DS is owned by a hedge fund that shorts OpenAI and Anthropic before pulling moves like this. They're not trying to make money with DeepSeek, just to harm the western tech bubble. Hilarious.

OpenAI and Anthropic are not publicly traded. I don't know if they can short it

This is the only good argument for AI use I have ever seen.

You don't like all the security fixes to Linux and Firefox they've already found?

i don't like linus putting a paywall around the developers he admits to the project by saying he only wants those with high paid subscriptions to western ai to be his "developers" or making his codebase deliberately computationally hostile to those that use open models

Kernel.org doesn't require model attributions anymore so what are you talking about?

    https://pivot-to-ai.com/2026/10/14/linux-kernel-goes-full-ai-slop-code-hides-chatbot-commits/

“Torvalds suggested adding an AGENTS.md file that makes generating kernel code expensive. He ends every session with a lengthy cleanup pass that takes a couple of hours to run, executing tasks like ensuring that the code matches the comments. That amount of work cannot be done with a free LLM account. I asked whether that risked cutting off bright new developers that we would rather hang onto; Torvalds answered that the kernel project only wants serious developers. That includes having access to enough resources to function in this world. ”

Right, that's how AI development works. You always do an expensive review pass at the end. He doesn't say anything about needing to use proprietary models for that.

whatever you think that means, to me it reads like he doesn't wan the vast majority of people to live. he's not exactly trustworthy

A paid account is like $20 a month. That's probably the lowest barrier to making a good commit for the kernel. It's not a place for hobbyists, it's the kernel.

Ah, so that's why Trump and the other bozos from Silicon Valley were on their knees when Xi was visiting.
