1.2" by 2100 with no acceleration from global warming

That is 0.3mm per year. Current annual sea rise is 4.5mm.

The danger of twaites is sudden collapse/detachment, giving an immediate 2 foot rise. Mostly global sea rise from other sources is what can raise melt from glacier, and accelerate its time of detachment.

For the first time in satellite history, 2022 to 2025 was 4 consecutive sub 2.5m km^2^ antarctic sea ice extents, and were closer to 2m km^2^ , 2026 was still below 2.6m km^2^ . Until now, global warming has not caused visible downtrends in Antarctic sea ice. year to year variation was in a narrow range with no noticeable trend.

Twaites is a region that is subject regularly to blue water events every year. A trend for Antarctic that leads to longer and wider blue water areas on coastal lines is also a recipe for warmer water to interact with Twaites. Returning every year will accelerate the "doomsday glacier" event, in addition to exposing other regional glaciers who, previously to last 5 years, did not get consecutive blue water erosion, which meant recovery years/periods.

Talking about Twaites as though, "if things stay the same, an insignificant number may double" is not the right way to be concerned about Twaites.
