Yeah, what we really need is a game about a young witch trying to solve the disappearance of her neighbor's cat in a small village in the Alps

Unironically this, people on hexbear have no idea how fucked up small villages in the Alps are. Martinaise is a paradise of human dignity compared to that kind of nazi vampire nightmare.

This is an interesting take, because I assume you don't know the context of what the person you responded to was referencing?

The Tl;dr is that someone on Twitter? Tumblr? Some place like that, said that they wished there was a Disco Elysium style game, but with a more casual plot/setting. And suggested a game about "A witch in a small village in the Alps, looking for her lost cat".

This post got clowned on a ton, I think somewhat unfairly, because even leftists can have Gamer Misogyny Syndrome. But you raise an interesting idea, that small villages can also have a lot of fucked up politics. So it could work.

Justice for the Witch in the Alps game idea, is what I'm saying

No, i'm fully aware of the context. I unironically think it's a perfectly fine idea and that the people clowning on it are just pissed that it's girly cozy aesthetics instead of cocaine divorced guy aesthetics, which is not sufficient to infer anything about its quality, artistic merit, originality or politics. It's 100% just Gamer misogyny that people get so upset about it. When i can play a game about a fucking cop who has stalked his ex so badly he can dial her new phone number from muscle memory and appreciate the finished product as one of the best video game stories of all time, i can expect guys to not piss their birthday boy pants when a game looks like an episode of the Heidi anime.

Don't most of the rural areas contain the worst humanity have to offer? They're mostly isolated communities that follow the rest of humanity at least 20 years behind technologically and 1000 years behind morally.

  • Pretty much, yes. Bavaria is unironically the Texas of Germany and if the game is set in Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein or South Tirol, the nazi villagers may even be worse. Being a witch in that tradcath-fash setting would allow for a ton of interesting politics, especially if the witch is gay enough.

Or maybe it would just be bucolic mountain stream propaganda. Also possible.

There's no way to tell just from one twitter post. My point is, we shouldn't write an idea like that off just because it sounds like the description of a lo fi beats to study to thumbnail.
