I had been studying Navajo (diné) a little, but I always felt self conscious learning it as a white person.
But this morning at the food bank where I volunteer a Navajo man greeted me yáʼátʼééh abíní (good morning). I was so surprised I drew a blank to respond to him. We talked a little about the language, and he reminded me how to say good bye, hágoóneeʼ
It has renewed my zeal in learning the language again, as difficult as it is.
