Having a charging point at home is also a issue. If you live in a apartment, you can request that whoever owns the building installs a charger. If you rent, thats even more difficult to get done. If you own your own house, you'll have to install one. Or I guess you could use the regular power coming out of the wall, but AFAIK thats quite slow?

Wall power will give you 2kW/hr on 120V AC, 3.5kw/hr on 220V. So you could charge a battery overnight on 220V external wall outlet.

But the reality is EVs are not optimal for apartment renters unless municipalities change the codes.

We really need to tie car ownership to renting or owning a parking space near a persons primary residence. That would avoid that problem and also prevents people in large cities, who really do not need a car to buy one and have it park on a public road for ages.

  • Maybe. I'd rather focus on making public transportation and pedestrian infrastructure so good that people don't even want to drive a car. Luckily I live in such a city, its not perfect of course, but its good enough that I waved good bye to my car last Saturday. I realised that the one or two times per year that I actually need a car, I need it for like a week. I can just rent a car, or borrow from someone, when the need comes. Other than that, I'll just walk or ride the bus/tram.
