When you log into your bank account, how do your savings look? Probably not as good as you’d like. It always seems like an uphill battle to build (and keep) a decent amount in savings.

But what if your car breaks down, or you have a sudden medical bill?

We’re not judging — we don’t roll like that. We’re here to help. We just don’t want you to have to sell those Elvis-Presley-signed velvet pants you inherited just to pay some lousy plumbing bill. Those pants are sweet.

Try these tips to get the ball rolling, and start building up your savings so you can breathe a little easier. Turn Your Junk Mail Into Cash

You know all those flyers and advertisements you get in the mail each day? The ones you never wanted but have no idea how to opt out of?

Well, you can turn them into cash.

The Small Business Knowledge (SBK) Center is a market research company that wants to get a peep inside your mailbox. Join its consumer panel, and start shoveling that junk mail into a postage-paid envelope and, at the end of each week, send it over to the SBK Center.

No, you won’t be rolling in extra cash, but you can earn up to $20 every six to 10 weeks. Ask This Company to Get a Big Chunk of Your Debt Forgiven

A company called National Debt Relief could convince your lenders to simply get rid of a big chunk of what you owe. No bankruptcy, no loans — you don’t even need to have good credit.

If you owe at least $15,000 in unsecured debt (credit card debt, personal loans, medical bills, etc.), National Debt Relief’s experts will build you a monthly payment plan. As your payments add up, they negotiate with your creditors to reduce the amount you owe. You then pay off the rest in a lump sum.

On average, you could become debt-free within 24 to 48 months. It takes less than a minute to sign up and see how much debt you could get rid of. Set Up Direct Deposit — Pocket Up to $400

When you set up an eligible direct deposit with SoFi Checking and Savings (Member FDIC), you’ll get up to $400 straight into your account. No… really. Just a nice little bonus for making a smart switch.

Why switch? With SoFi, you can earn up to 3.30% APY on savings and 0.50% on checking, plus a 0.90% APY boost for your first six months when you set up direct deposit or keep $5,000 in your account. That’s up to 4.20% APY total. Way better than letting your balance chill at 0.40% APY.

There are no fees. No gotchas. Make the move to SoFi and get paid to upgrade your finances. Stop Paying Your Credit Card Company

If you have credit card debt, you know. The anxiety, the interest rates, the fear you’re never going to escape… but a website called AmONE wants to help.

If you owe your credit card companies $100,000 or less, AmONE will match you with a low-interest loan you can use to pay off every single one of your balances.

The benefit? You’ll be left with one bill to pay each month. And because personal loans have lower interest rates (AmONE rates start at 6.49% APR), you’ll get out of debt that much faster.

It takes less than a minute and just 10 questions to see what loans you qualify for.

The more that I think about this tag, the more hilarious it becomes. You tag me as if I had some malicious intention by wanting to have the slop comm be moderated. Your post proves me to be correct.

The fact that the post got 20 upvotes shows that nobody actually read the link to see that it said "ADVERTISEMENT" at the top of the page. This demonstrates the dogmatic behavior in the current form of the slop comm.

If I've learned anything from the response to my proposal is that hexbears have no idea what this comm is intended to be. Every hexbear thinks that the comm's purpose is something different.

The only similarity between posts on the slop comm are smugness, condescension, and lack of any substantial criticism. You didn't know that you were posting an advertisement and many other slop posters don't know what they are posting. Users post thumbnails of videos and don't watch the video. Users post screenshots of headlines and don't read the article.

The lack of direction of the comm promotes ignorance. The comm has become a substitute of criticism. Users post things that they don't like and don't even explain what the criticism is. The fact that it is posted into the slop comm is the criticism. This prevents any meaningful discussion from happening.

Imagine there's a web forum for medical workers and medical workers are frustrated by the things that their patients tell them. So they make a comm called "shitpatientssay". This comm would serve the purpose of a way to showcase incorrect things that patients says, so that the medical workers can share their frustration and also offer advice to handle the patients.

Then a year ago by, some of the medical workers are not only sharing things that their patients said but also sharing photos of their patients and even photos of injuries that the patients have. One doctor uploads a photo of a man with a broken arm, the post is titled "He said he didn't know what happened". This post becomes vastly popular, how could a patient not know what caused their arm to be broken?

Some of the doctors are made uncomfortable by these photos, some are disgusted and some say that it violates the trust of the patient. Other medical workers like feeling the disgust and seek out the photos.

It becomes clear to some that the comm is being used, not as a way to criticize or correct the patient, but instead as a way to mock the patient, to feel disgust towards the patient.

Eventually the comm gets to the point where 30% of the posts in the comm are not things that patients have said. Users are posting links to controversial medical journals. Users are posting videos of drug commercials. Some people are even posting articles to mass casualty incidents like plane crashes and mass shootings. These things have no resemblance to the comm's original purpose.

A proposal is made to reform the comm to be limited to posts being about things that patients actually said.

The users cry "If the comm is limited to incorrect things that patients say, where will I post images of the badly cooked food in my hospital's cafeteria?"
