@Pontifex: In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

@Spectromachina: Pope, would you please shut the fuck up about matters you do not understand? You're not an Ai influencer, no one elected you, and you have absolutely no weight in this debate and you're being used as a mouthpiece to sway public opinion. how many local models do you run?

Community Note: The Pope is elected by cardinals in a Conclave which gathers in the Sistine Chapel.

"social media" has made the world a worse place. why should anyone with a screen be able to make a "reply" to a "post" by someone else, who they have no relation to? why is there one forum and why are replies open? how come someone can post about what they had for breakfast, and someone unrelated and unconnected can stumble upon that post and make a comment about seed oils or how the bread looks gross? why can some basic bro reply to a post made by the president of the catholic religion, and why do we have to see it?

actually, i would prefer it if the boss of the hat-focused christian-adjacent religion didn't have an opinion on "AI" at all, and didn't even know what it was. it cheapens his image. but that's a different topic.

It's the job of the pope to try to reconcile current events with ancient religious teachings though. Otherwise, what's the point? Just reread the Bible if you want a refresher on the original teachings.

In IRC, #ppb would be the ppb channel moderated by whoever had an @ in #ppb. If all the @s (ops) left, it would be unmoderated, in which case an admin could assign an op or let it go to shit. Twitter started with the "let it all go to shit" philosophy and here we are.

Your description is very specific to fully public social media like Twitter or Reddit, where every user can anonymously interact with every user without consent or moderation, and every user is potentially exposed to that interaction. Social media doesn't have to be that way, and many aren't
