get exercise, people. Doesn't have to be a lot, the body is just incredibly lazy and will merrily get rid of your ability to walk if you don't regularly remind it you still need muscles.

And range of motion and balance. Last time we had a restraint incident I was on the floor bracing my foot on the crossbar under the chair hauling that leg strap back like I was a gotdamn sailor then had to go over and crawl between the security guard's legs to do it on the other side because my coworker was still tryna figure out how to crouch down like jfc thank god security was already there keepin' ahold of the guy or we'd all be dead by the time Doris's knees got low enough (fake name). And at least that was in the hallway, time before that I was vaulting furniture in the patient's room to get to all the straps. My coworkers always look at me like I'm nuts when I'm climbing and hanging on the furniture at work like a bat then look at me like I'm heavensent when the shit happens. Like I don't even do anything formally (probably should) I just stop and use the hallway rails like a barre sometimes for funsies. I'll stand on one leg to help me focus while passing meds or do a split under a counter to put it at waist height and they'll walk by and ask 'you good?' I don't go anywhere and torture myself for an hour I just make it part of my daily life.

I just ride my bike everywhere it's possible and try to go for a 30 minute walk at least every other day.
I'm 30 and never had back issues. Either it doesn't take a lot of movement so stay reasonably healthy or I'm very lucky. (Or my back will kill me in 5 years)

Or you're lucky and don't have a spine problem that has nothing to do with how much exercise you get...

Like, exercise definitely helps. But the amount of effort some people need to do to be pain free is very different from person to person.
