When I was working at record stores, this was, unironically, the correct answer. You can't just like one genre and work at a record store; you have to be able to intelligently discuss blues, jazz, electronic, noise, punk, metal, pop, rock, and of good sampling of sub-genres as well in order to help customers not only find what they're looking for but turn them on to other bands they might like. So when people asked "so, what kind of music do you like?" the answer was "oh, I like good music."
