Though the jury’s still out on the most effective solution, one thing is clear: harsher prison sentences for drunk drivers don’t translate to fewer DUI offenders on the road.

Unpopular opinion...but, I think mandatory interlock devices should be installed in all vehicles, the same way seatbelts are. Get behind the wheel, and you can't even start the car unless you blow under the legal limit. Period.

The problem with most drunk driving incidents is the person driving is often too impaired to realize they shouldn't be driving. They aren't making an informed decision...they're drunk.

    The main issue with this is that the interlock devices fucking suck and break constantly. We just tolerate it because convicted drunk drivers aren’t exactly a politically popular group.

    people arguing against this are honestly fucking insane or just straight up astroturfing

    It's not surveillance, it's not nanny state holy shit, it's preventing people from KILLING OTHERS

    out of curiosity... why do you think cars are so expensive? are you planning on getting rid of all the older cars? Heres a plan we could only release expensive cars with lots of features and throw away all the old cars, so people are forced to buy the new ones! We could call it regulatory capture in capitalism!
