RomM sounds like a much better option.

Another vote for RomM here. Basically turned my archives into a self hosted GoG

Can RoMM catalogue recent PC games?

I have this going, but unfortunately it suffers from a pretty severe memory leak in its latest version. I've watched GameVault, but am not jazzed by it's product monetization approach.

    Yes.

Primary file will be whatever installer/iso. Supplementary stuff is a bit awkward but can be put in, and then it pulls metadata from (primarily) IGDB and Mobygames

What you're not going to pull off is a deeply automated import of PC stuff in the way you can throw a whole ROM library at it and let the scan work.

I took a run and this over the weekend and it was extremely simple - just another platform in ROMM alongside what I already had. PC games are in a separate storage location than where I keep my ROMs, but bind mounting it to the container library worked a treat.

I bid adieu to my Gameyfin setup. ROMM syncs to Playnite, so now I have a single catalogue of everything I have across every service and offline installer.
