A fridge has a simple job to do.

Keep the inside cool.

The challenge of building a fridge is building a fridge that can run continously for years, if not decades without fail.

We have mostly solved that problem, it doesn't need any smart logic or any fancy operating system to work.

    Yes, but also improvements to its efficiency which we've also made great strides in but are backsliding a little on because of stupid shit like this. Large chunks of our always-on electric bill are these things, after all.
