All their rhetoric about nuance and strategy is just what they tell themselves to ignore their own depravity. To draw an extreme comparison, this is like someone living just outside a Nazi death camp and telling themselves the bangs and wails on the other side of the wall are just the noise of normal factory work. The acrid smoke rising from the crematorium is just regular factory exhaust nothing more.
