How do we solve the obesity crisis? (sh.itjust.works)

According to some sources, at least 1 in 8 of the world population is classified as ‘obese’. Since nobody in any government seems to have thought up a working solution, what do you believe can be done to solve the epidemic?

1 and very well-muscled people

BMI shouldn't be used to evaluate an individual, period. It's fine for populations, like when comparing correlations across groups.

If already measuring height and weight, adding waist circumference greatly improves ability to parse out visceral fat versus heavily muscled.

    So many commenters forget that BMI was created based on statistical analysis of young white men - specifically, soldiers. Just like IQ tests. So neither accounts for age, height, race, sex, disability, financial background, illness, mental health, limb differences, etc and so on. BMI is only useful for evaluating if your average young white man is fit for military service, and that's it. But because it's such a nice number with a simple formula, it got slapped on everything. Which is shit.

    Waist to height is the only proven metric, but as I wrote above, BMI misses in the other direction much more frequently. You are not likely so muscular you are obese, but skinny-fat is common.
