That was also the German nickname for the F-104, and i'm expecting somebody to barge in and inform us that the F-35 has been called that for a decade now.

    The F-104 had the best nicknames, all related to how it loved to kill it's pilots

    The Italians took possession of theirs in '62 and lost 147 of them in accidents over the next 42 years. They were crashing just over 3.25 of these a year for almost half a century. That's some dedication to killing pilots

    Zipper; "Missile With A Man In It"; Witwenmacher "Widowmaker" (Bundesluftwaffe nickname); Flying Coffin; Ground Nail; Bullet & Blades; Badmash "Wicked One" (Pakistani nickname for F-104As), Eiko "Glory" (Japanese nickname for F-104Js), Spaghetti Starfighter (Italian nickname for F-104S-ASAs.)

    The Luftwaffe also called it Sargfighter, after the German word for coffin.
