i've been saying it for years, but it bears repeating: to maga, "true" is what trump says it is. he could go on tv tomorrow and declare the sky is green, and within minutes there would be calls for banning school textbooks endorsing the "woke" agenda of a blue sky.

you can't reason with these people. it's a fucking cult. what cult leader says, goes. no mountain of evidence to the contrary is going to change their mind that what he says is true, and what anyone else says is "fake news" or a "hoax," whatever bullshit buzzword he chose that day

    That's frustratingly undeniable.

But also, there's a Millenarianism to the MAGA movement that's costing them support over time. The pool of Trumpies is shrinking as the milquetoast Lindsey Graham neocons and the faux-libertarian Tucker Carlson fascists bail out of Trump's party. Same shit happened under Bush, at the tail end of '07/'08. You had a bunch of Radical Centrists and Professional Conservative Contrarians with their fingers to the wind, saying "Um akutly I like this Obama guy because he's popular and Shrub isn't".

The people who are still pro-Trump are crazier because the sane cyncial people who were just along for the ride during the "good" times are leaving. FFS, Karl Rove says he's voting Democrat this year. That's how thin the base is getting.

  • Everyone thought leader in MAGA is trying to time the crash. As the train gets further from the rails, some members take their profits and leave, claiming to have had their eyes opened finally or whatever. This has a side effect of leaving the more reckless in charge of the MAGA faithful. Some of them think there is yet more juice to be squeezed from the globe, for those bold enough and strong enough to squeeze it. Some of them are in too deep and believe they can't leave, not now. They are the ones that would destroy the world before realizing a loss.

I can't remember where I heard this theory. MAGA effectively operates as a cult and these false beliefs are used as a way for members to identify each other in public. It's the idea of "did you hear the latest teaching from Trump" and if you didn't know, you were out of the loop and could be ostrisized.

what? wtf? you're saying maga needs secret handshakes? how does this square with the scores of people who fly giant trump flags from their trucks and houses? why tf would they need codewords to identify other nazis when they all wear the nazi brand on their sleeve? what am i misunderstanding about your comment?

it's not a "secret society." it's the polar opposite of secret. they're trying to take the democracy we all grew up with and turn it into christotechnofascist oligarchy very VERY openly. and they've been succeeding

Theres "in" groups within "in" groups. They're fascists, they need the hierarchy, so the fools flying trump flags are maga, but they're not as maga as the ones flying trump flags and claiming the sky is green because trump says so. We saw the same stratification with the ones wearing bandages on their ears, or diapers.
