I... Dont understand the problem? Like if you want to just double click a file and open in VLC, just do that? If you have any level of organization at all, you have a folder of media??

Like, i have a folder thats /media/shows. I want them in a library, so i tell jellyfin that /media/shows is my library, wait maybe 20 seconds and i have a netflix level library.

Im not fighting you. I simply dont understand why you either...

  1. have some level of organization and thus can point jellyfin at it

or

  1. have no organixation whatsoever and thus just double click to open in VLC

Update; i understand secret 3rd option of

  1. you simply have no media on your pc whatsoever and thus want a collection of sources to stream from

Which i can respect. Im horrified, but, i respect it.

Yes, it's option 3. Why are you so "horrified" by this? Does the concept of people watching YouTube/Freetube/Piped horrify you too?

Look, this isn't music we're talking about; when it comes to movies and TV, I see no point in building a personal library, just how I see no point in downloading YouTube videos. I have my favorites that I'll re-watch once in a blue moon, yes, but generally once I'm done with a movie/episode, I'm done with it for good. Therefore I see no point in having a movie/TV collection wasting valuable hard drive space.

Before I discovered Stremio/Nuvio, my workflow was like this:
Boot up PC > fire UP VPN and open Firefox > Navigate to 1337X > search for something to watch (assuming that I already know what I want to watch) > click magnet link and wait for seeds > transfer file to Jellyfin library > boot up TV > open Jellyfin and watch > delete file

After switching, my workflow is now this:
Boot up TV > Open Nuvio > Browse for movie/show > Watch

I hope I explained it well enough by now. Do you understand the difference now? One of these options requires way more work than the other. Nuvio works exactly like Netflix. It even recommends you content based on your viewing history. No personal library required.

I get it. I just have an entirely different workflow because my wife rewatches things, i share it with friends, and i have a moral obligation to share it with strangers.

Want to watch something > find magnet > categorize as movie or show > wait a while > watch thing > seed indefinitely for others to download as well

    Or

Receive request > find magnet > categorize > inform when finished > seed indefinitely for others to download as well

Its that final step youre missing out on that brings me great socialist joy and finalizes the "owning" portion of the equation. I fundamentally disagree with streaming, paid or otherwise, because that final step where i get to share it with whomever i please.

If i bought a video game in 1999, every kid on my block had access. If i bought a vhs, same thing. Nowadays, if i spend money on a movie or tv show, only i get to watch it. Music is inherently different and video games are a bit easier to share via my steam family, but you get the idea.

That's fair, can't really argue with the sharing is caring argument. But to be even more fair, I don't feel like cached torrents (which is what Nuvio uses) harm anything, either, since all it takes is one person to grab the file, and then everyone using the same seedbox/debrid service can download/stream it directly at their internet's maximum download speed.

And to be even more more fair, you can always pair Usenet with Nuvio instead, completely taking seeding out of the picture.

(BTW sorry for coming in hot earlier, I tend to get irritated easily for no one's fault but my own. My dopamine receptors don't function very well...)
