I can share that logic, but I had this discussion with someone else that convinced me of the opposite. The rationale is that in most places adoption doesn't have the same legal status as migration, plus the overal experience, difficulties, privileges or lack thereof, are very different in either case. She may or may not consider herself a migrant, so a more neutral wording like "a wife from Sri Lanka" would be more appropriate.
