I was living in the US then and old enough to vote for that election. Another missing piece here is that Al Gore had the closest thing to a sure shot election and ran the worst campaign known to man. He even lost his own state.

    Yeah, way more likely to win by the numbers and ran a worse campaign, Hilary at least has a personality, Al Gore sucked personality out of a room in appearances and debates. He appointed the most conservative VP Joe Lieberman. Also people thought George W Bush a stupid nepo-baby at the time and was very unpopular unlike Trump who as a became wildly popular and crushed the republican debates as a comedian.

    I'm not old enough to have been aware of much of Gore's campaign. What did he do?
