It's more the other way around. Globally you can look up the production capacities to see that renewables have already won. Locally, especially in western countries, this reality is fought very hard at the moment with every right-wing populist and their grandma screaming loudly about those evil wind turbines and ugly solar panels (and don't let me even start with the more fringe indiots –or not so fringe anymore since they got coopted by the far-right, too– telling all kind of insane stories about solar is heating of the planet and wind power is causing extreme weather patterns...) and well-connected industry lobbies even covertly paying alleged environmentalists and all those other nimbys to block green energy.
