Hello everyone,
The Palestinian family that I’m currently helping had faced an extremely unfortunate week, and urgently need all the help that they can get now.
On Wednesday, I received devastating news from Hassan, the head of the family in Belgium, that his wife had miscarried. This has taken a huge toll on them as they had wished for their only child Hayat to have a younger sibling to play with. The cost of surgery and burial is expected to cost around €500. Both me and my friend are able to partially cover the amount, but will still need additional help to cover the full cost (or any unexpected cost increases).
To make matters worse, the IOF shot Hassan’s uncle, Ramzi, just 2 days ago and he is currently in a serious condition. Ramzi is a Palestinian resistance fighter who was released just last year after 15 years of imprisonment and torture by the IOF. It has been confirmed that they had been monitoring his movements for some time and were waiting for the chance to eliminate him.
(Trigger warning: distressing scenes) As of now, the latest update I had received was that his heart started beating again upon arrival at the hospital. However, should he recover, it is likely that he will lose his sight and sensation of his legs.
This series of events have taken a blow on the entire Aburaida family’s morale. Despite our best efforts to reassure and comfort them, these two tragedies have made them feel hopeless of their present and future.
