The reason I try to avoid using the phrases "good person" and "bad person" is that it implies that there are people who simply don't do bad things. "Bad people do bad things, and I'm a good person, so I really don't need to critically examine my own actions and how they affect others."

I think there are many--possibly even most--"bad people" who have positive opinions of themselves. Dark triad and all that.

And then of course plenty of "good people" with self-esteem issues who will always have a bad opinion of themselves.

There should be at least a degree of objectivity when it comes to determining goodness. The bar might be low, but there is a difference between somebody who generally thinks of others (considerately) and who generally does not.
