Congress passed a symbolic resolution on Tuesday to condemn socialism — a move that saw eight Democrats cross the aisle to back the GOP on the measure.
The vote, which has no actual effect on public policy, was swiftly mocked by observers on social media.
"Voting to condemn an economic system that doesn’t exist in our country, to protect the one which we live under that exploits the working class to benefit the obscenely wealthy," wrote Melanie D'Arrigo, executive director of Campaign for New York Health. "This was Congress’ priority as 60% of Americans struggle to afford food, housing and healthcare. Embarrassing."
My point is that essentially ALL elections these days have blatant abuse. So saying "well if it wasn't for the blatant abuse..." is pointless because it's pretty much guaranteed to be present. It doesn't really matter how close or popular someone gets because the powers that be have their thumb on the scale.
